Tigra Sport MountCase Magnum Bike Mount for iPhone 6s Plus

For those of you with an interest in iPhone bike mounts, Bike-52.com has an interesting review of the Tigra Sport MountCase Magnum.  I’ve reviewed Tigra Sports products on this blog before (their MountCase 2 and BikeConsole products) and have been impressed with their quality and overall utility, so I was pleased to see this review of one of their more recent products.

OtterBox Strada: A Genuine Leather Folio Case with Drop Protection for Samsung Galaxy S7!

With an exterior of premium genuine leather, a card slot, and drop protection by OtterBox, the Strada is an outstanding folio case for the Galaxy S7.  It also has a great hand feel, a pleasant amount of grip, and a very strong magnetic clasp.  The Strada is an excellent and highly usable case.

Pros:

  • Genuine leather exterior.
  • Certified to meet the standards of OtterBox’s Drop+ Protection program.
  • Super strong magnetic clasp keeps folio cover securely closed, and will also keep folio cover securely folded back when not in use.
  • Single card slot can hold one to two cards, or perhaps some cash.
  • Even with two cards in the card slot, the Strada closes securely without bulging. When shut, you cannot tell that there are cards inside.
  • Volume and power buttons are easy to press and nicely clicky.

Cons:

  • No media stand functionality, unfortunately.

Overall, this is just an outstanding case, whether or not you use it to carry cards or not.  It looks great, has an excellent feel in the hand, and should provide good protection in the event of a fall.  With an MSRP of $49.95, the Strada for Galaxy S7 comes in three colors: Ruby Romance Red, Night Cannon Blue and Onyx Black.  It is available directly from OtterBox as well as from many other retailers.  Many thanks to OtterBox for sending me out this sample to review.

Otterbox Defender for iPhone 7 Plus: Solid, Serious Protection!

A large case, with a solid feel, built in screen protector and serious grip, the OtterBox Defender should provide outstanding protection for your iPhone 7 Plus.  Its included belt clip is excellent for people who are looking for that type of functionality and even for those who are not interested in carrying their phone in that manner, the belt clip can be useful in its media stand mode.  The OtterBox Defender may be overkill for people who need a more basic, everyday protective case, but for those whose lifestyles lead to hazardous conditions for their mobile electronics, it can be perfect.

Pros:

  • Great grip.
  • Excellent screen protection, from both the built in screen protector and the high lip surrounding the screen.
  • Reasonably easy to get on and off your iPhone.
  • Comes with a rotating belt clip which doubles as a media stand.
  • Construction is solid and well built.
  • Membrane over the home button works perfectly when operating Touch ID.
  • Provides port protection for lightning port and mute switch.

Cons:

  • Adds a great deal of thickness and weight to your iPhone.
  • Screen protector, although usable, has a significant air gap which necessitates extra force when typing and swiping.
  • Buttons require some extra force to push.  Hopefully this will loosen up over time.

With an MSRP of $59.95, the OtterBox Defender for iPhone 7 Plus is available directly from OtterBox as well as many other retailers.  It is currently available in black, blue, purple and green. Many thanks to the kind folks at OtterBox for sending me out this sample to review.

OtterBox Commuter: Slim, Attractive Protection for your iPhone 7 Plus!

Looking for a protective case for your iPhone 7 Plus, but want to maintain a slimline profile? Check out the OtterBox Commuter! This grippy case features port protection, has a nice lip and very clicky buttons. It also shows off the Apple logo on the back of your iPhone, for people who like that look. It is quite similar to its cousin, the OtterBox Symmetry–both are slim, protective cases with a good lip and good grip. However, they do have some important differences. For one thing, the Commuter is a two piece case, so it’s a little more time consuming to install than the Symmetry. It also features port protection, which is something the Symmetry does not have, and if you like to show off the Apple logo on the back of your phone, you are definitely going to lean toward the Commuter as the Symmetry does not have that feature.

Pros:

  • Slim profile.
  • Certified to meet or exceed the requirements of OtterBox’s Drop+ Protection program.
  • Nice, clicky, easy press buttons.
  • Good grip due to the rubber on the sides of the case.
  • Shows off your Apple logo through the opening on the back of the case.
  • Port cover for lightning port helps keep out dust and dirt.

Cons:

  • Exposes the back of your case to potential scratch and dent hazards due to opening for the Apple logo on the back of the case.
  • Harder to put on and take off than OtterBox Symmetry, and slightly thicker than the Symmetry, although marginally shorter.
  • Lightning port opening is slightly smaller than that on the Symmetry and may not fit many third party lightning cables.
  • No longer comes with a plastic screen protector included.

With an MSRP of $49.95, the Commuter for iPhone 7 Plus comes in four colors and is available both directly from OtterBox as well as from many other retailers. Many thanks to OtterBox for sending me out this sample to review.

Beautiful, Case Compatible and Easy to Install: Zagg Glass+ for iPhone 7 Plus!

With an easy install, excellent fit, and outstanding optical clarity and oleophobic coating, there is a lot to love about the Zagg Glass+.  This tempered glass screen protector is also quite case compatible, and in my testing, it worked great with the OtterBox Symmetry, UAG Plasma, Ballistic Jewel, Speck Presidio Clear, Speck Presidio Inked, Incipio Octane, Pelican Protector and OtterBox Commuter.  It is a great choice for people who plan to use their iPhone 7 Plus with a case, and is truly a pleasure to have on your iPhone.

Pros:

  • Great fit: no hazing along the sides of the protector.
  • Easy install: tabs allow you to position the screen protector without touching the adhesive side and any bubbles can be quickly removed.
  • Excellent oleophobic coating: really a pleasure to touch.  Repels smudges and fingerprints, and to me it looks better than your naked iPhone screen.
  • No issues with 3D Touch.

Cons:

  • Not an edge to edge curved screen protector: there will be uncovered margins on the edges of your iPhone. However, this makes it very case compatible.

Overall, this is just an outstanding product for your iPhone 7 Plus.  Available directly from Zagg as well as from other retailers, the Glass+ has an MSRP of $39.99.  Many thanks to the kind folks at Zagg for sending me out this sample to review.

Ballistic Jewel for iPhone 7 Plus: A Reasonably Priced Clear Case with Great Grip and 6 Ft Drop Protection

The Ballistic Jewel case is a clear case that offers the user a (mostly) slim profile, a grippy material, and an impressive 6 foot drop protection. Now, I say that this case has a ‘mostly slim profile’ because it is pretty slim all over, except for the corners, which flare out considerably. This is a signature design aspect of Ballistic’s cases and I suspect it works very well to protect your iPhone. Corners are a major weak point on most phones and by protecting the corners, Ballistic protects the screen as well. At any rate, the big corners of this case aren’t really that noticeable because you are generally holding the case in the middle, rather than on the corners, so you don’t notice them as much as you otherwise would.

Pros:

  • Great grip! This case is highly non-slip.
  • Nice protective lip works with the protruding corners to offer excellent protection to your iPhone’s screen.
  • Excellent ‘lay on the table’ design protects both the screen and the back of the case from scratching.
  • Easy to install and remove.
  • Good, secure fit on the iPhone 7 Plus.
  • Clear case really shows off the beauty of your iPhone 7 Plus.
  • 6 foot drop protection!

Cons:

  • Corners are kind of big 🙁
  • Grippy material does attract lint to some degree, but it isn’t that bad.
  • Clear case material may yellow over time.

Conclusion: Overall, the Ballistic Jewel is a very solid, protective case at an excellent price point. Available directly from Ballistic, as well as from various retailers, the MSRP of the Jewel is $19.99 and it is currently only available in the Clear color featured here.  Many thanks to the kind folks at Ballistic for sending me out this sample to review.

UAG Composite Case for Samsung Galaxy S7: Slim, Beautiful and Mil-Spec Drop Protective!

If you have a new Galaxy S7 and are looking for a slim case with solid drop protection, you should look at the Composite Case by UAG.  A combination of durable polycarbonate and TPE rubber, the UAG Composite Case meets or exceeds the standards for military drop test certification and has a great feel in the hand.

Pros:

  • Fused polycarbonate and rubber for a protective and relatively grippy case. The materials themselves are not that grippy, but due to numerous grip lines and indentations, the overall result is a medium-grip case that still slides easily into and out of pockets and bags.
  • Easy press buttons.
  • High protective lip around screen.
  • Slightly oversized corners that provide both drop protection and lay on the table protection and grip for the back of the case.
  • Mil-Spec drop protection rated (MIL STD 810G 516.6).
  • Reasonably easy to put on and take off.
  • Thin, stylish form factor.

Cons:

  • Industrial design may not be to all people’s tastes…but I really like it 🙂

Conclusion: Thin, reasonably grippy, and mil-spec drop rated, the UAG Composite Case will protect your Galaxy S7 and look great while doing it. Available directly from UAG as well as from other retailers, it comes in 7 lovely colors and retails for $34.95.  Many thanks to UAG for sending this sample out to me to review:

Show off your Black iPhone 7 Plus with the UAG Plasma in Ice!

UAG’s new Plasma line offers translucent, beautiful, military drop standard protection for iPhone 7 Plus.  Currently available in three colors: Ice, Ash and Citron, the Plasma line excels at showing off the beauty of your new iPhone while providing reasonably grippy mil-spec protection.  However, UAG’s decision to make this case compatible with both the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus means that there will be odd design aspects for both phones that detract slightly from the case overall.  If the case is being used with the iPhone 7 Plus, the fact that the bottom of the phone still includes a cutout for the headphone jack is not visually appealing, and if the case is being used with an iPhone 6s Plus, the camera opening will be grossly oversized.

Pros:

  • Fused polycarbonate and rubber for a protective and relatively grippy case. The materials themselves are not that grippy, but due to numerous grip lines and indentations, the overall result is a medium-grip case that still slides easily into and out of pockets and bags.
  • Easy press buttons.
  • Nice protective lip around screen.
  • Slightly oversized corners that provide both drop protection and lay on the table protection and grip for the back of the case.
  • Mil-Spec drop protection rated (MIL STD 810G 516.6).
  • Reasonably easy to put on and take off.
  • Thin, stylish form factor.
  • ‘Mystery holes’ that were present on the back of the previous year’s UAG cases are no longer present.

Cons:

  • Less rubber on the sides of the Plasma case as compared with the previous year’s version gives the case slightly less grip.
  • Decision to make the case compatible with both iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 6s Plus is questionable.

Conclusion: Overall, the UAG Plasma is an excellent case for the iPhone 7 Plus and the Ice color looks especially fantastic on a matte black iPhone.  For the iPhone 6s Plus, however, it is less optimal due to the size of the camera opening.  The Urban Armor Gear Plasma for iPhone 7 Plus/6s Plus retails for $39.95, comes in three lovely translucent colors and can be purchased directly from UAG, as well as from Amazon and other retailers.  Many thanks to UAG for sending me out this sample to review.

2x Mil-Spec Drop Protection, Leather, and a 10 Year Warranty: UAG Goes Upscale with the Monarch for iPhone 7 Plus!

UAG’s new top of the line case, the Monarch, features 2x military drop test standard protection, upscale leather panels, an enhanced grip, and comes with a ten year warranty.  It is also $20 more expensive than their standard cases, at $59.99.  Is it worth the extra $20? Well, it all depends upon what you are looking for in a phone case.  The Monarch does have a fancier appearance, and the increased drop protection is definitely an attractive feature.  I’m also a fan of the grippier sides, and I like the fact that the Monarch is somewhat easier to install and remove than UAG’s other case lines. But a 10 year warranty is a little bit pointless in a phone case.  It’s nice in that it would seem to indicate that the case is well made, but the number of people who would keep a smartphone for that amount of time must be vanishingly small.

Pros:

  • Protects your phone to twice the military drop test standard (which is four feet), so it should survive an 8 ft drop.
  • Top grain leather insets give this case a more upscale appearance.
  • Grippy sides are a pleasure to hold.
  • Good protective lip around the screen.
  • Enlarged corners jut out slightly to provide enhanced drop and scratch protection.
  • Nice clicky buttons.
  • Easy install and removal; the softer, more rubbery sides of the Monarch make this case easier to get on and off than UAG’s other case lines.
  • 10 year warranty is presumably an indicator of product durability over time.

Cons:

  • 10 year warranty is way too long: no one would ever be using a smartphone for that length of time. UAG should just call it a four year warranty, or something else more reasonable.
  • Considerable price bump over UAG’s standard cases.
  • UAG’s decision to make this case compatible with both the iPhone 7 Plus and 6s Plus is questionable, as the port openings don’t look quite right when the case is on the iPhone 7 Plus, and the camera opening will be hugely oversized if the case is used on an iPhone 6s Plus.

Conclusion: Overall, UAG Monarch is a great case and I really enjoy using it on my iPhone 7 Plus.  It is on the pricy side for a slim protective case, but some people will definitely find the enhanced protection and other new features to be worth the price.  Available in Platinum as well as the Graphite seen in this review, the Monarch retails for $59.95 and is available directly from UAG as well as from other retailers.  Many thanks to UAG for sending this case out to me to review.

Stylish Designs and Serious Protection: OtterBox Symmetry for Samsung Galaxy S7

If you are looking for a case for your Galaxy S7 that provides solid protection while maintaining a slim profile and great hand feel, the OtterBox Symmetry is for you.  And with the Graphics line, you also get stylish designs for a fashion forward look for the same price as the standard Symmetry case.   A one piece case, for easy install and removal, the Symmetry case is constructed of sturdy, scratch resistant polycarbonate on the outside and synthetic rubber on the inside. The interior rubber covers the buttons and extends about halfway down the sides of the case, giving the Symmetry a nice degree of grip.  Currently available in six different designs, the Symmetry Graphics cases for Samsung Galaxy S7 are the epitome of stylish protection.

Pros:

  • Certified to meet the standards of OtterBox’s Drop+ Protection program.
  • Good grip from the rubber on the sides of the case.
  • Rubber covered buttons are clicky and very responsive.
  • Matte polycarbonate back is very scratch resistant.
  • Relatively high lip provides good screen protection.
  • One piece design is easy to install and remove.
  • Excellent build quality.

Cons:

  • Unlike some of OtterBox’s case lines, the Symmetry line does not come with any screen protection.

OtterBox Symmetry Graphics cases have an MSRP of $39.95 and are available directly from OtterBox as well as from Amazon and many other retailers.  Many thanks to OtterBox for sending these samples out to me to review.
