If you take credit card payments on your iPhone 5 or 5s using the wonderful Square reader, you might have encountered the dilemma I did: you’d like to have a sturdy, protective case on your phone as you are handing it to strangers to get their signatures for Square transactions, but none of the truly protective cases will allow your Square reader to plug in to the headphone jack–they are simply too deep. So you put your beloved phone in as tough a case as you can, and pray that no drops will occur. Well, nervous iPhone and Square user, I have good news for you: Griffin, who is known for their high quality protective cases, has partnered with Square to develop the Merchant Case + Square Reader. This innovative case was designed around the Square reader, so it has all the protective features I want (thick silicone rubber, sturdy construction), while still allowing the Square reader to fit.
Not only does it fit, it goes into a special niche designed especially for it, so that it can’t twist and turn during the act of swiping–something that could potentially stress and damage your headphone jack over time.
Swipes are smooth, easy and consistent. There is even a little pocket on the back of the case for you to store the Square reader in when it is not in use.
The case also features convenient finger indentations on the sides which give the user an even firmer grip. And the silicone is really a nice compromise between being grippy enough to give you a firm hold while not being overly sticky in the hand. Nice case, and really not as big as I thought it would be, given all its features. And surprisingly, Griffin is selling it for only $19.99, which is quite a low price for such a protective, feature-filled case.
