When Amzer sent me out their Crusta case to review, I was very excited. After all, it is one of the more innovative cases for the iPhone 6/6 Plus—the idea of 6 foot drop protection in a case consisting largely of tempered glass is quite stunning. The reality of the Crusta case doesn’t quite live up to all the hype, but it is still a pretty good case.
* Innovative design
* Good looks
* Many color options to choose from
* Mute switch is easy to operate
* Good quality tempered glass screen protector is included with the case
* Sides of the case are very grippy
* TPR rubber bumper fits too loosely for my taste
* Port covers for lightning and and headphone ports are difficult to open and close
* Screen protector does not adhere entirely on the edges and is rather difficult to apply.
I was really torn when reviewing this case. It does have some strong points—the design is very innovative and it is nicely grippy in the hand. I also like all the color options, and the online instruction videos are helpful and clear. However, at $45, while cheaper than an Otterbox, the Amzer Crusta is not that cheap. Perhaps unfortunately for the Crusta, I received it at around the same time as I received the ZeroLemon Protector case, which retails for $10.99. Sure, the ZeroLemon lacks the fancy glass back and the included tempered glass screen protector, but in some ways its build quality surpasses that of the Crusta…and it is four times cheaper. The ZeroLemon Protector’s rubber shell, while slightly tight to pull on, installs so cleanly that the case looks like a one piece case, in contrast to the Crusta’s overly stretchy TPR rubber ring. I guess I like a feeling of solidity in my cases, and I just didn’t get that with the Crusta. It is a fine case, but I’m just not convinced it is a $45 case. $20 maybe?
Here are some more pics of the case, and a link to my YouTube review…
