The Trident Apollo Folio case for iPhone 6 Plus is an interesting folio case that has a few standout features, and one big drawback. Crafted from durable polycarbonate, with a sturdy vinyl cover, this folio case is definitely well made. Trident doesn’t market it as a wallet case, but it does have two card slots on the inside of the vinyl cover so you can potentially use it as a very minimal wallet. It has a magnetic flap to keep the cover closed and it should be sturdy enough to protect against minor drops.
The two standout features of the Apollo Folio are its interchangeable backplates and the ability to fold down the top part of the folio cover in order to freely access the back camera or view notifications on the screen. The fold-down cover is really a great idea and works quite well—there is a horizontal crease in the front cover which allows the top third of the folio cover to be folded down out of the way. More folio cases should adopt this method; it removes one of the primary drawbacks of the folio case, which is the inability to easily take pictures. The second standout feature of this case—the interchangeable back plate—is not unique to Trident, but it is still nice. The Apollo comes with an extra back plate that can be switched out to turn the folio case into a regular case with no cover. This is a nice feature if you aren’t sold on the folio case concept and you want the option to change to a cover-free case if needed. However, this brings me to the major drawback of this case that I previously alluded to—the case is relatively easy to get on, but is quite difficult to remove. This makes the interchangeable back plates of the Apollo case less appealing—switching them out is likely to be quite arduous.
1. Fold down cover allows for easy photography
2. Solid build construction
3. Interchangeable back plates
4. Minimal wallet functionality
5. Nice magnetic clasp
6. Comes with a plastic screen protector
1. Exceedingly hard to remove
Conclusion: Overall, if you aren’t a case switcher and the Apollo Folio appeals to you, this may be a good choice. However, if you like switching your cases often, or just like to take off your case to clean your phone, than the Apollo Folio is probably not for you.
